Incorrect "news" report

As a councilmember who participated in the process of hiring the current city manager and can speak with complete knowledge of what occurred, I say without hesitation -- the information supposedly reported in a local weekly (I haven't seen it for myself) about other applicants turning the job down before it was offered to Mitchell Johnson is absolutely 100% wrong. That did not happen!

Sandy, can you disclose Tom Phillips' role in hiring Mitch Johnson?
I was recently told that Phillips orchestrated the hiring of Johnson.
Could you confirm if that statement is true?

But Sandy,

Hammer backed it up by saying that it was "reported." It really shouldn't matter that he doesn't cite a source or provide any other kind of substantiation or that you, as one involved, contradict his claim; Hammer says it was "reported" and that really should be good enough for all of us.

Tony,

Tom was one of the nine councilmembers who participated in the hiring process and decision. If you want any further information about Tom's role, I suggest you contact him directly.
