Sorry for my long silence -- my new job in Pleasant Garden is keeping me REALLY busy these days and I haven't had any extra time to devote to blogging. I am still learning where various files and records are kept in the numerous files in Town Hall plus trying to keep up with preparing agendas and transcribing minutes of various meetings. I have a new understanding why Greensboro's veteran clerk Juanita Cooper is always in such a tizzy the Thursday before a Tuesday council meeting -- it's a real challenge to meet the Open Meetings Law deadline and get that agenda and all its supporting materials out in time no matter how far in advance one tackles the task due to last minute changes, etc. But so far, so good!
One thing I thought might be different is the length of council meetings -- Greensboro City Council routinely pulls some 'late nighters.' Pleasant Garden's meeting last Tuesday night adjourned at midnight -- that was a long day for me that began at 9:00am -- but I got conditioned to those hours with the long Greensboro meetings.
One of the items of business at that meeting was to appoint persons to attend meetings of various committees and organizations such as PTCOG. Irony of ironies, the administrator/clerk (me) was given the assignment of covering the meetings of the Greensboro MPO's TAC -- the very body I chaired until my election loss last fall. I warned GDOT staff they'd be seeing me at tomorrow's meeting so they won't be totally puzzled when I walk in.
Due to this new position, I've deliberately kept a low political profile lately. Imagine my surprise to see my picture on A-1 of the print edition of today's News & Record! I expected a few quotes after a lengthy conversation with reporter Jason Hardin last week, but sure didn't expect the photo -- took some ribbing from a friend about still making the front page. {smile}
Time to go -- another busy week ahead of me. I'll post when I can.
