My son Sean was one of Joey's teammates in inline/rollerblading speedskating competition before Joey switched to the ice. He is really pleased and excited for his friend.
Congratulations, Joey!
My original focus for this blog was an attempt to keep citizens up to date on issues on the Greensboro City Council and other governmental bodies on which I formerly served, to provide more details so "the rest of the story" could be known. As my roles continue to change, so too will the content of this blog. Who knows what you find here next! You can contact me at scarmany@aol.com

They replayed the ceremony last night for Joey Cheek's gold medal. How neat to hear Bob Costas talking about the "gold medal winner from Greensboro, North Carolina." It's good to see folks from the Triad getting on national television without having to go the reality show route.
Mike,
I agree 100%! What a refreshing, postive representative for Greensboro!
I guess Greensboro didn't care when Joey did great in the last Olympics? I also skated with joey back in the day.

Hey JJ. I remember him from the previous Olympics in Salt Lake City, but you make an interesting point of celebrating our atheletes after they've "won it all". Still kudos for Joey using his frame to discuss issues in our world that are much bigger than athletic competition.
