Thank you for posting this, Sandy. I think I'll try to make the October 20th meeting. My thoughts in a nutshell: make getting somewhere by bike feasible. The "trails" are nice and I enjoy them, but I'd like to be able to keep the car in the driveway for the occasional short trip. I live about a mile and a half from Panera Bread on Lawndale. I won't ride my bike though (as much as I'd like to) because biking down Lawndale is suicide.
Roch,
Great - I hope many more citizens will join you at one of these meetings.
In my opinion, the model for cycling trail excellence, at least on the Eastern Seaboard, is that of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Perhaps we could negotiate with Hilton Head Island/Bluffton, South Carolina, officials, as well as officials from Pinellas County, Florida, on the possible cycling route from the Piedmont-Triad region of North Carolina, through the Carolina Low-Country and onto the Tampa Bay region of Florida.
I concur with Roch's assessment though, in that, cycling trails, greenway spaces, light-rail transit, expanded bus service and pedestrian transit are the wave of the future.
I hope you'll take the opportunity to attend one of the public sessions to share your expertise.
